How to fix Ipad IOS can't download PDF files are Corrupted Problem

Are you having problems downloading PDF files from your browser in your iPad? Getting 52byte sized PDF corrupted files all the time via Google Chrome browser?

Lots of Corrupted PDF file

Just sharing this, as we encountered the same problem. So we googled for possible fixes, and tried some of the suggestions in community forums, Quora, Reddit and other web sites.

Things you can try is to:
  1. Uninstall some apps that you recently installed. Some users had success fixing this problem uninstalling Alibaba.
  2. Others fixed the issue by uninstalling Acrobat reader and reinstalling the app in IOS
  3. Others fixed the issue by installing a different PDF reader - Good reader (I think this is a paid app). We tried FOXIT reader instead as there is a free version.
  4. We also tried to disable pop-up blockers temporarily for the site where you are downloading the PDF file (if it works add a rule to allow pop-ups from that site - and enable popup blockers again for protection)
  5. Another fix for others was to use Safari browser to access and download the PDF.
You can try these different methods  to see if it will work with you. Unfortunately in our case none of these work, so we tried to experiment and try some other ways based on some other suggestion.

But if you really need to be able to download PDF in Google Chrome browser, please continue reading below.

One other approach to get it working in our case while we were still trying to fix the problem was to use Google Chrome's Incognito browser mode. We opened an incognito session in Google Chrome, opened the site where we are downloading PDFs from, and downloaded - it worked. The PDF file was not corrupted. This can be considered a workaround or remedy in our case, if it works for you then great.

A more permanent fix we found for our case in Google Chrome browser is to do a reset to default settings for Google Chrome. After we did that, PDFs would download correctly, not corrupt. Voila, problem fixed.

Follow the steps below for Google Chrome:

1. Click on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of Google Chrome. The click on settings.

2. Click on Content Settings

3. Click on Default Apps

4. When in the Default Apps screen, scroll down to the bottom

5. Click on "Reset to system defaults". Exit settings and try to download PDF files again. (Hopefully it should work now).

Important Note(s):

  1. You may need to repeat setting up your lockscreen PIN and fingerprint security
  2. You may also need to "Trust" again some app providers or apps on your iPad

We are not sure if at least one of the suggestions above, will work in your case. But hoping one of the methods above will work for you. In case this suggestion works or you have other working fix, kindly share in the comments below. Good luck! :)
